OIG Workplan 2010
The 2010 OIG Work Plan was released October 1, 2009 by HHS. The OlG Work Plan sets forth projects to be addressed during the fiscal year by the Office of Audit Services, Office of Evaluation and Inspections, Office of Investigations, and Office of Counsel to the Inspector General. The Work Plan includes projects planned in each of the Department's major entities: the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services; the public health agencies; and the Administrations for Children, Families, and Aging. Information is also provided on projects related to issues that cut across departmental programs, including State and local government use of Federal funds, as well as the functional areas of the Office of the Secretary.

The 2009 Healthcare Compliance Best Practices Forum will be held October 26 and 27 in Washington, DC.
The Best Practices Forum was established in 1995 in cooperation with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to recognize unique accomplishments in the development and management of compliance programs. Mark Pastin, President of the Health Ethics Trust, said, “There is very little recognition for achievements in compliance - and that is why our board created the Healthcare Best Compliance Practices Forum.”
If you have never attended the Forum, it is unquestionably the compliance education event of the year. Unlike programs in which you are surrounded by vendors hawking their own ideas, the Forum allows you to look at what others are doing successfully in their programs.
Awards are open to any area of program development and management but the practice must have been implemented for at least six months. Those who intend to make submissions should declare their intention as soon as possible. The complete submission package must be received by the end of September 2009.
Award recipients are selected by the Best Practices Committee, an independent committee of working compliance professionals. In addition to awards for program elements, we will identify a Best Compliance Practice of the Year 2009. If you are submitting an entire program for consideration, the submission must be accompanied by a program evaluation conducted within the past 24 months. Submissions will only be considered if a member of the candidate organization capable of presenting the submitted practice is enrolled prior to the submission deadline of September 25, 2009.
The Best Practices Forum carries credit towards the CCP (Certified Compliance Professional) and CCE (Certified Compliance Executive) credentials.
Like all Trust programs, the Forum is held in a vendor-free environment. This is our lowest tuition course of the year so that the wide possible group of compliance professionals may attend.

www.BestCompliancePractices.com will be your resource for more information, speaker and award winner announcements and everything you need to know about the Forum.

This course provides in-depth education on all aspects of hotline operation and conducting related investigations.

The Pastin Report on Best Compliance Practices
As many of you know, The Pastin Report has been on hiatus. During its many years of publication, we had no idea who if anyone read it. When we suspended publication, we found out that it was much enjoyed by many. So we are bringing it back - Volume 7, Number 1 is now available - May 2008.

Individual Membership
In response to growing ethics and compliance concerns in healthcare, the Council of Ethical Organizations formed the Health Ethics Trust in 1995. The purpose of the Trust is to assist organizations and individuals committed to ethical and legal conduct through educational programs, research, and shared best practices.
The Health Ethics Trust sponsors a full agenda of ethics and compliance activities such as the annual Healthcare Best Compliance Practices Forum. Trust members also have full privileges as members of the Council of Ethical Organizations.
The HET individual membership program is designed for those leading a one-person compliance function and for those whose employer will not support an organizational membership. The Trust’s individual membership has shown rapid growth in recent years because we have worked hard to ensure the value of individual membership. If a member attends even one program in a given membership year, the cost of individual membership will be fully recovered.
